Video — Disputing A Debt And The Impact On Your Credit Report




When you dispute a debt (preferably in writing), the debt collector has certain obligations under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

It must mark the debt on your credit report as “disputed” — at least when it updates the reporting after your dispute.

Often debt collectors will not do this — and this is a clear violation of the FDCPA which prohibits false credit reporting.
