VA Pension — “Underutilized Benefit” — Only 10% Eligible Veterans Receive

by

The VA has said that this Pension benefit is an “underutilized benefit” — that is veterans that should be receiving it are not.

So how underutilized is it?

Only 10% of veterans who are eligible are receiving it.

Can you imagine 90% of those entitled to receive it — for service they or their deceased spouse paid the price of serving this country — are not receiving it.

What a travesty!

The VA also estimates the average benefit is about $4000 a year. We suspect this number is too low as the VA often doesn’t take into account that the gross income must be reduced by unreimbursed medical expenses — remember IVAP? The benefit can be over $2000 a month — $24,000 a year….

How much money is owed to veterans and is not being paid?

This is why we must make efforts to educate veterans and families on this important benefit.
